Description
Choose your size
The Apple Slice caters to a wide range of riders. The range starts with a very low volume board that can also be used as a prone foil board or for accomplished riders who can get by with limited volume. As you move up the volume range, the boards become easier and easier to ride. And the range culminates in a 110L in 5'7 length, ideal for heavier riders in light wind conditions.
Key features of the board
Compact shape
The Appleslice V2 has a relatively compact shape. It's not as short as the Jazz, but it's still pretty compact even though the Appleslice is much narrower. This helps with wave riding and racing if you hit the water with the rail on windward runs or tight turns. Throughout the range, increments are about every 10 liters, so there are sizes to suit everyone.
Hull Entry
The inlet shape of the Appleslice V2 is quite unique. It has a boat hull-like bottom that flattens out quickly under the front foot. Similar to a racing boat, this hull shape helps deflect water during acceleration. It increases bottom efficiency and you'll notice that the board gains speed very easily, which means you can comfortably ride a size smaller in volume.
Extended planing surface
After entering the hull, the bottom flattens out to provide a stable riding surface. The back of the Appleslice V2 is straight with a hard edge at the end. This bottom is ideal for acceleration and release out of the water, allowing you to fly faster. The foil rails are set slightly forward to allow for the use of new high aspect foils that work better when set further forward. The Appleslice V2 rails are beveled to help deflect water at touchdown.
Recessed front foot support area
You'll see the unique recessed feature throughout the Appletree Surfboards foil line. This ensures that the angle between the footwell and the foil mast stays at 90 degrees, while allowing you to change the angle between the bottom and the foil mast. You want the bottom to be slightly more than 90 degrees because it helps the board gain speed and lift if you hit the ground. What you don't want is for the footprint to be more than 90 degrees, as this will make you feel like you're standing on a slope, which means you'll have less control over the foil.
Natural volume distribution
The volume of the Appleslice V2 is evenly distributed across the shape, making it easy to balance when you're on your knees. Once on the foil, the board feels balanced and is easy to turn and maneuver. In the larger sizes, this board is very easy to control when you are still learning, while the smaller sizes allow the board to improve your riding.
