The best kite spots in French-speaking Switzerland

Here is a brief overview of the different fun and accessible kite spots in Switzerland, for all levels. Take a look at the spots to find your next kiteboarding destination in Switzerland.

Yvonand

Located in the north of Vaud, the beach of Pins offers a large sandy area on a spot known for the breeze. It is a spot in good part on-shore (Headwind) which is very reassuring because in case of drifting one returns automatically to the edge. It is probably one of the most reassuring spots to start sailing in Switzerland (after having learned in a school of course!). On the water, the bottom is far enough and the wind is regular as long as you move away from the shore.

The only problem in Yvonand is the overpopulation of kiteboarders on kissing days and the management of too many. Too many cars, too many inflated kites, too many kiteboarders who want to take off, too many kiteboarders everywhere. I let you read the section "How the spot works" to know how to behave on this spot.

The Vengeron

Welcome to Lake Geneva!
I think it's been more than 20 years that kitesurfing exists on the Vengeron spot. At the time of the first Wipika 2 lines around 1998-1999, we could already see the first kiteboarders of the Team force 5, Yvan in the lead, doing their first tests and crossing the lake.

The Vengeron spot is very nice, we rig the sail on the grass, the wind comes in full ball on the take off area, if there wasn't this damn launch, the spot would be perfect! But once on the water, the slightly hot passage in the rocks is quickly forgotten! One thing to note is that the small lake is forbidden to kite from the (Virtual) Vengeron-Tour carrée line. So once on the water, don't forget to ride upwind quickly.

Allaman Bay

The bay of Allaman is a south-west spot with a west wind (which is rare on this side of Lake Geneva).
It is a very small spot and requires a good level (especially for the take off/landing part).
Apart from the tricky take off, the bay is reassuring, as you will be riding in on-shore wind. And in case of problem it's back to the beach by drifting.
It is not a spot for beginners and if you hesitate, go rather to Préverenges or St-Sulpice.

Saint Sulpice

With Préverenges, the spot of St-Suplice is the ideal spot for the south-western orientation (typical orientation of the depressions) on the Lake Geneva. The beach of the spot is a mixture of sand and grass and the typical wind comes in side shore which makes this spot rather accessible for intermediate kiteboarders (school trip).
The vaudaire (wind coming from Valais) can also come in here, it's very rare, so it's very cool to ride in Vaudaire.

La Neuveville

It's a nice spot on the Lake of Biel with the Iîle St-Pierre (a peninsula in fact) in front of it. Ideal spot in breeze. Very popular with foils, as there are few waves and it is directly deep. You will also find on the spot the "buvette du nénuphar" which is a great restaurant where you will always be welcomed. 100m before the arrival on the parking, you will also find the Gin Kiteboarding house, the local surf shop of the local brand.
