Without changing the DNA of the kite, North has designed it to be more flexible, lighter, faster, and even more predictable in unpredictable conditions. It meets all the criteria that riders expect from a performance kite and big air.
For 2023, the Nort Orbit kite is even more responsive in all conditions. North has made small structural refinements to smooth the canopy, optimizing the profile for less drag, faster forward speed and smoother turns. A slightly refined bridle means the kite is more stable and forgiving in overpowered and gusty conditions, while retaining its ability to fly forward and satelite you with megaloop.
The overall weight of the kite has been reduced with lighter bladders in the larger sizes and introduced a new 2-ply canopy material reinforcement on the trailing edge. The lighter the kite, the faster the steering, the more lift it creates and the higher you jump. The leading edge and battens were constructed from North’s N-Dure Dacron, which is lighter to save a lot more weight without compromising strength or durability.
North also introduced two additional bar pressure options so you can choose between a light, forgiving feel in freeride mode and ultra-direct steering with shorter depower travel in megaloop mode. This new fourth setting gives you the confidence to sail the kite even lower. It’s ideal for heavier riders on smaller kites, and increases the kite’s ear support on those crazy 40+ knot days. Tested by nature, proven on the catwalk. The North Orbit protects you when the rules of gravity don’t apply!

Anti-gravity boosts and megaloops

This increases the surface area of the kite that works for you, making it super efficient with great power – giving you incredible momentum. It is also fast and responsive in steering and flies forward into the sky quickly, so it is able to catch you, climb and give you plenty of time to prepare for your landing.

Powerful and efficient 2-stage bow design
The North Orbit has a wide, flattened 2-stage bow supported by a reinforced exo-skeleton frame, ensuring a breathtaking glide.

N-DURE Dacron, lighter in all sizes
The use of lighter Dacron on the leading edge and battens saves a lot of weight without compromising strength or durability.

Refined Bridles
In 2023, North made small improvements to the bridle, retaining the controlled response and quick steering of the Orbit, while giving the kite a more energetic feel with increased depower.

Lightweight bladder in large sizes
Weight is important, always. Lighter weight means a smaller turning radius. Lighter weight means your kite flies faster, sooner, because you need less wind to get the kite up in the sky. The lighter it is, the faster the steering, the more lift it creates and the higher you jump.

Strategic 2-ply canopy reinforcement
A two-ply canopy material is used to reinforce the trailing edge. This adds strength and elongation control, while protecting the main body of the canopy.

Stable 5-batten performance
When you’re chasing the storm, the North Orbit offers incredible high-level control.

Highest quality pulley-less bridles
High quality, pre-spliced and pre-stretched bridles are preloaded and measured before cutting to improve accuracy and consistency. This results in less shrinkage and longer life. Removing all pulleys from the bridle improves safety and gives the kite a direct and precise handling.

High aspect design
Gives the Orbit a low drag profile, allowing it to sit further forward in the wind window for incredible upwind performance. The high aspect design also allows for more surface area in the center of the wing for easy relaunching.

N-HTRS High Performance Canopy
All North kites are made using a high tenacity polyester yarn sail material for lightness, high tear strength, zero porosity and durability.

New Steering Pulse Options
The steering impulse options are the attachment points at the end of the kite for your back bridle lines. All North wings come with the optimal setting. On the Orbit, it is the second one from the wing tip, which gives the wing a lighter and more forgiving feel. If you prefer more direct steering and a shorter depower stroke, you can move your connection to the front.

Airfoil Transition Panels
For 2023, the panel cutout has been refined to achieve an even smoother profile by removing the heavy-duty wing panels. There is now only one panel segment instead of two, reducing the number of seams and helping to smooth the airfoil entry.

Kevlar reinforced strut system with flange deflectors
For a precise and durable connection between the forestay and the leading edge. Flange deflectors on the leading edge prevent control lines from snagging.

DuraLite seam protection
Lightweight reinforcement to protect against chafing and abrasion along the buttresses to the leading edge. Fine foam padding is inserted underneath to form a lightweight, durable buffer that gently lifts the kite over rough surfaces and protects the seams along the battens and leading edge.
